Day 1: Heart of the City

Arrive at your B&B located within the historic city. Begin touring Newport with a short ride up Bellevue Avenue past some of the magnificent mansions. We'll suggest you get off your bikes for a hike along Cliff Walk where sheer cliffs drop down on the ocean side while on the land side there are wonderful views of many of the mansions. After returning to your B&B enjoy a stroll down to the heart of the historic harbor at scenic Bannisters Wharf and Bowens Wharf. There is an excellent choice of restaurants within walking distance and the seafood is fresh off the boat. (5 mile route + Cliff Walk hike)
Day 2: Exploring Newport's coastline

After you hearty breakfast, begin your bicycle tour along America's Cup Avenue past the scenic wharfs and onto Thames Street, lined with shops and more restaurants. You will turn onto the route commonly known as "Ocean Drive" and for the next 8 miles you will pass many historic and scenic sites including Ida Lewis Yacht Club, Fort Adams State Park, Brenton Point State Park and many beautiful private homes. Ocean Drive curves into Bellevue Avenue, lined with the mansions, or "summer cottages" as they were known. If you did not hike Cliff Walk on your first day, then we provide another option for you to get off your bikes and walk along this breathtaking path. The ride continues past sandy beaches (great for swimming and body surfing) and to a winery that is tucked down long lane. We return to Newport past some of the most historic buildings in the city. (26 mile route)
Day 3: Touring Jamestown and Conanicut Island

After breakfast take a short ride to the dock where you will catch the ferry to Jamestown and Conanicut Island. Jamestown is often overlooked, but is a wonderul spot for cycling along Narragansett Bay and is surprisingly quiet compared to other coastal Rhode Island areas. The ride offers a classic New England combination of rocky shores, a lighthouse, welcoming harbor and sweeping ocean views. While Newport is upscale and thriving, Jamestown draws you in and invites you to linger in an entirely different way. Be sure to remember when the last ferry returns to Newport! (22 mile route)
